Welcome to Fjord to Fibre, a sanctuary where craft, connection and beauty intertwine. I’m Anina Hansen, founder and host, and it is with great joy that I invite you into this world I have been weaving.
My story begins with learning to knit from my Danish mom at about the age of 5. Years later, Urban Yarns was brought to life after a passing conversation in a knitting social group. A shared love of fibre, community and for the creative spark that lives in each one of us. Urban Yarns was born from a desire to inspire makers of all ages and levels to explore the endless possibilities of yarn texture, and design.
Twenty years later, life brought me to the beautiful coast of Vancouver Island, where I now call home. Living by the water nourishes me, offering new inspiration every day. Fjord to Fibre is the next step in that vision.
Fjord to Fibre is the next chapter of that vision. Here I gather kindred spirits—makers, learners, wanderers—to experience more than a retreat. It is a curated experience: we travel to thoughtfully selected places, immerse ourselves in local food and drink, learn timeless skills from master craftsmen and craftswomen, and draw inspiration from the land, the sea, the air, the culture.
I am inspired by the knitting traditions of my Scandinavian roots and the quiet elegance and the respect for nature found in those northern lands. It is that spirit I bring with me: the calm, the intention, the connection to materials and to one another.
In every detail—whether it’s the hand-picked yarns, the local artisans we invite, the food grown and served nearby, the beautiful setting in which we gather—I bring passion and care. I believe that when you feel good in the space around you, the creative work flows easier, the connections are deeper, and the memories linger.
My hope for Fjord to Fibre is simple but heartfelt: to create a space where you feel welcomed, you feel inspired, you feel connected—to your craft, to people, and to place. Where you learn skills you will keep long after you return home and hold memories that stay with you forever.
