About us
Fjord to Fibre grew from something that has always been important to both of us: the joy of making things, and the people we meet along the way.
Between us, we have spent many years bringing people together. Anina through the fibre community and her years at Urban Yarns, and Kaitlyn through a career in hospitality and creating experiences for others. Although those worlds may seem different, we have always loved the same part of them: welcoming people in, sharing something we care about, and watching new friendships and ideas take shape.
Fjord to Fibre is our way of bringing those things together.
What began with a gathering in Victoria has grown into something we could only have hoped for. We are now bringing Fjord to Fibre to communities across Canada, meeting wonderful people along the way and continuing to discover just how much there is to learn, make and share.
What We Believe
We believe creativity is something worth making time for.
There is a particular kind of joy that comes from learning something new with your own two hands. From sitting around a table with people who understand why you care so much about the details. From seeing what someone else has made and going home full of ideas about what you might make next.
And we believe that inspiration is meant to be shared.
So much of what we know about craft has travelled from one person to another. Techniques are taught, patterns are shared, stories are told and traditions are carried forward. Someone takes the time to teach us, and somewhere along the way, we have the opportunity to do the same for someone else.
We want Fjord to Fibre to be a place where that continues to happen.
The Experiences We Create
Our retreats bring together creators we admire and people who are excited to learn from them. But we want the days we spend together to be about much more than the workshops themselves.
We choose places we are excited to share with you. We seek out local makers, businesses, food and experiences that give you a real sense of where you are. We partner with people who care deeply about what they do, and we put thought into the details — from where we gather to what we eat and how we spend our time together.
There is time to learn and time to explore. Time for a beautiful meal, a good conversation, a new friendship, or simply sitting beside someone with your knitting in your lap.
Our hope is that you go home not only with something you have made, but with new ideas, new friendships and that wonderful feeling of wanting to begin your next project.
A Community That Keeps Creating
More than anything, we want Fjord to Fibre to become a community people feel part of.
A place to remain curious, discover people doing interesting things, share what you are working on, learn from one another and find a little inspiration when you need it.
Because creativity doesn't end when a retreat does.
It comes home with us. It lives in the projects we pick up in the evening, the things we make for people we love, the skills we pass along, and the ideas we share with one another.
The more we create and share, the more we give someone else a reason to create too.
And that is something we hope Fjord to Fibre can help keep going for a very long time.
