Three Mornings with ARNE & CARLOS
Designing, Tailoring & Knitting a Sweater the Norwegian Way

An Immersive Three-Day Workshop | February 18–20, 2027 | 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

Discover the traditions of Norwegian sweater making in this immersive three-part workshop with ARNE & CARLOS.

Traditionally, Scandinavian knitters often created sweaters using individual measurements, simple mathematical formulas and colourwork charts rather than following detailed written patterns.

Over three mornings, you'll learn how to apply these techniques to design a sweater tailored to your own measurements and personal style.

With guidance from ARNE & CARLOS, you'll explore sweater construction, calculate stitch counts, experiment with traditional Norwegian motifs and begin developing your own design.

By the end of the workshop, you'll have the knowledge and resources to continue knitting your personalized sweater at home.

What you'll learn:

  • Traditional Norwegian sweater construction

  • Taking measurements and calculating stitch counts

  • Adjusting proportions for a personalized fit

  • Working with traditional Norwegian colourwork charts

  • Selecting colours and developing your own sweater design

  • Beginning your knitting project

Skill level:

Suitable for confident beginners, intermediate and advanced knitters. Participants should be comfortable knitting and purling in either Continental or English style.

What to bring:

  • 3.5 mm (US size 4) double-pointed knitting needles

  • A well-fitting sweater with traditional sleeve construction for reference

Materials provided:

  • Two balls of ROWAN Norwegian Wool in contrasting colours

  • Measuring tape and graph paper

  • Workshop handout with the sweater formula and 6–8 traditional Norwegian colourwork charts

Participants are not expected to complete a full sweater during the retreat.
